"The beach is for everybody"

"It is a sport that originated in the district that is practiced here, and in which everyone can join in"

The beaches of the city have become multicultural spaces for leisure and sports activities for both citizens and visitors, where traditional Catalan sports are also played.

Catalan skittles attracts people from different origins and walks of life, especially the elderly who come together to play, chat, do some exercise and have a good time.

Ta-ka-tŕ is a sport invented by the swimmers and inhabitants of the Barceloneta district. Sweat and sand fly as players tear around the court trying to keep a tennis ball in the air.

These wide-open spaces offer the freedom to practice physical activities that is not often possible in an urban context.

The preservation of local cultural activities is particularly important at a time when Barcelona is becoming an ever more globalised city. The participation of immigrants in traditional Catalan sports can help contribute to their continuity and development.
